The War on Piracy: From Cold to Hot

“We need, across the board, to move IP enforcement up the agenda of the federal government,” [NBC Universal CEO Jeff Zucker] said.To that end, the [U.S.] Chamber [of Commerce] is pushing for the creation of a new White House post called “chief intellectual property enforcement officer,” increased spending for border and law enforcement, and stepped-up coordination with industry and foreign governments.

The culture industry is stepping up its efforts to maintain culture as a spectacular commodity by expanding its War on Piracy.

Also, the recent RIAA trial victory shows that things are getting more heated — not to mention bandwidth throttling by ISPs that directly interfere with our ability to communicate.

We thought DRM was bad, but that was just the beginning.

Praxis and theory go hand in hand, so if we are going to ensure the fall of the culture industry and the spectacle, then we need begin building our arsenal of theory.

I propose the formation of an international journal dedicated to building a philosophical foundation for the War on the War on Piracy.

  1. the only thing i have to say about the RIAA trial victory is this: if evidence hinges on a screen name, and you admit freely that its the same screen name youve used on fucking fifteen different webites and your personal email, and then deny that its your screen name when it came to sharing files.

youre a fucking idiot if you think you can win that case.

  2. My initial reaction to the Culture Industry would be to forsake all the low pleasures that we get from gratification of the “false needs.” I will stop watching tv, silly internet videos, video games, pornography, etc.
But, seriously, damn that. We can resist the control by partaking in the distractions without getting distracted. We take those cultural artifacts that are meant to pacify and slyly oppress us and we use them in ways other than that which they were intende…

fuck what am i even really saying?

i’m just trying to participate but i feel silly repeating everything that i’ve said before to a couple people who not only agree but have more to say about it anyway

i’m going to watch silly movies and listen to silly music and read and play and run off at the mouth and i’m going to do it all for free because i don’t have to hurt anyone to do it and i don’t have to work that hard to get it

    fuck the police

    hey hey hey hey
    smoke weed every day
